Work of the Holy Spirit

In Jesus’ priestly prayer, in the Gospel of John (17: 1-26), He said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh. That He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.

The work that God gave to Jesus was accomplished on the cross of Calvary. There, Jesus drank the cup of the curse so that we could drink the cup of Salvation served by Him. Here is the grace of God extending to as many as they believe in Him. However, this work that Jesus did only ends when the Holy Spirit reveals the Lord Jesus to the person. That is why it is necessary to seek the Holy Spirit.

When a person understands that it is necessary to have faith to take the cup of Salvation that the Lord Jesus offers, he also understands that he needs the Holy Spirit. Then He comes upon her and gives her faith, discernment and condition to understand the Word of God, so that the Lord Jesus may be revealed to the person.
