When someone has hurt or offended you, normally the only thought in your mind is getting even. You feel like it’s not fair for a person to get away with the wrong that they did or the harm that they’ve caused. And if you don’t feel that they were punished sufficiently, then you as a human being tend to hold grudges in your heart. But that is not the way that the Lord Jesus taught.
Look what happened when Peter spoke to Him about forgiveness.
Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Matthew 18:21-22
God is God. He will never treat you like human beings do, God forgives us when we do wrong if we repent and ask for His forgiveness. He takes our sins and casts them into the deepest of the ocean.
If you have something in your heart against someone, you should pray and receive God’s strength to forgive them. Be specific, even go as far as to say their name in your prayer asking God to help you to forgive them. No matter what they have done to harm you. You can forgive your ex, forgive your child’s father, forgive that person who hurt you, forgive that person who abused you. Let it go, empty your chest before God and the Holy Spirit will remove the grudge, the hatred and the spirit of revenge.
Sometimes you may try to avenge your case or to do justice with your own hands, to pay back that person who did you harm, and you only make your situation worse and you become bitter inside. Instead, allow God to purify you inside. Let it go and the burden will be lifted off of you.
May the God of The Bible Bless You
