Our History -The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God

It all began on July 9th, 1977, when The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God Brazil officially opened its doors. At the time, Pastor Edir Macedo, began his first meetings at a bandstand at the Garden of Meier in Rio de Janeiro. Guided by the Holy Spirit and filled with an unshakable faith, Bishop Macedo obeyed God’s voice to pursue his calling to spread the Word of God. Not long after, a former funeral home in the neighborhood of Abolição in Rio became the first church building where the meetings were held. As more people started attending, the need for a more spacious location was needed. This led the church to a remodeled former furniture warehouse which was able to accommodate 1,500 people. As the church continued to grow, the building had to be expanded in order to seat 2,000 people. Within  a short period, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) in Brazil started to expand to other cities, which included Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Bahia, and Rio Grande do Sul, among many others. As of today, there is a Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in every state throughout Brazil.
